K.P.

It was once said, “The enemy of every empire is freedom of speech”. Throughout history, there have been individuals who shake the core of empires by their mere words because they command the ear of the people.

A great example of this type of individual is K.P. Born Kristian Pope, K.P.  is one of the few Hip-Hop artists who specialize in making music that appeals to the masses without sacrificing an ounce of lyrical and social integrity. Born in Lawrence, KS and raised back and forth between Tucson, AZ, K.P began writing music from the age of 3. “Music chose me, I didn’t choose to do music” says K.P. He began honing his innate ability and star potential singing and dancing to the soulful sounds of the 70’s and 80’s between his mother and father’s split household. When asked about his musical influences K.P. credits Red Hot Chili Peppers as one of his favorite acts of all time alongside Tupac. Other influential artists are Jay-Z, UGK, Limp Bizkit, and Linkin Park.

Coming from two different households and moving around a lot, K.P. was exposed to both sides of the tracks. From the gang banging, guns, drugs and violence to the strict confines of his father’s suburban home.  The pull between these two worlds allowed him to grow not only as an artist but as an individual. K.P began writing down his thoughts and experiences soon catching the attention of a major publishing company. His songs were soon being submitted to the likes of Rihanna and Marques Houston, ultimately losing out to “The Dream” and another writer.   It was not long before he began to attract the attention of local producers and hip hop artists in the rap genre.

K.P. recognized that his music resonates with almost anyone. His music is about real-life situations that the everyday person can relate to. His music creates an atmosphere that welcomes all listeners from nearly any background. His listener is able to take something from one of his songs and apply it to their life or current situation. “If people would just listen to what I am saying, their life will be a little better from it”, says K.P. When asked what his listener would be gaining from his music K.P stated, “My music influences people to be better, not just in life, but as a person. I want people to be able to grow and draw inspiration from what I am giving them. We come from an era where we are expected to be nothing knowing we are better. I want them to know they make their own destiny. You have to manifest what you want that is better. That’s my message. Set goals for yourself.”

In the fall of 2010, K.P. signed with the independent label Legendary Knocks. Teaming up with legendary producer Tony Gaines, K.P is set to release a string of mixtapes in spring 2011. “Music is my life, it’s what I breathe”. K.P. is determined to claim his status as a timeless and legendary artist. You’ll see…………
